Our Approach

We believe that responsible mining is not a constraint on growth - it is a condition for it. Our health, safety, and environmental (HSE) framework is built around three core principles: protecting the people who work at our sites, minimizing our environmental footprint across every stage of the mining lifecycle, and contributing positively to the communities where we operate. These principles guide every decision, from how we design an open pit to how we manage waste, water, and land rehabilitation.

People First

The health and safety of our workforce, employees and contractors alike, is our highest operational priority. Every individual on site has the right and the responsibility to stop work if conditions are unsafe.

Environmental Stewardship

From exploration through to closure, we integrate environmental management into our operational planning. We aim to leave the land in a condition that supports future use by local communities.

Regulatory Compliance

We operate in full compliance with Tanzanian mining and environmental legislation, including the Environmental Management Act of 2004, the Mining Act, and all applicable NEMC requirements.

Everyone Goes Home Safe

Our operations at the Seka and Ikungu projects involve both open-pit and underground mining, each with distinct hazard profiles requiring tailored safety protocols. We manage risk through structured systems, continuous training, and a culture where safety is never negotiable.

All personnel undergo mandatory safety induction before entering any operational area. Daily toolbox talks address task-specific risks before every shift. All incidents and near-misses are reported, investigated, and treated with equal seriousness. Each site maintains emergency response plans with regular drills.

Underground at Ikungu: Engineered for Safety

The Ikungu underground operation, which commenced in early 2024, features a dedicated ventilation shaft, spiral ramp access, and a main dewatering facility. Ground conditions are continuously monitored, and monthly throughput is calibrated at approximately 5,000 tons to maintain safe operating conditions as the mine develops.

ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT

Protecting the Land That Sustains Us

The Mara region is home to diverse ecosystems and communities connected to the Lake Victoria basin. Every phase of our operations is preceded by an Environmental Impact Assessment in accordance with Tanzania's Environmental Management Act and reviewed by the National Environment Management Council.

Water Management

Closed-loop water circuits at the processing plant minimize freshwater consumption. Regular monitoring of groundwater and surface water quality around all operations ensures protection of local water sources.

Tailings & Waste

Our Seka plant employs dry tailings technology, significantly reducing risks associated with conventional wet tailings storage. Waste rock is managed through engineered dumps designed for long-term stability.

Land Rehabilitation

We maintain rehabilitation bonds as required by Tanzanian law and incorporate progressive rehabilitation into active operations. Post-mining land use is planned in consultation with local communities.

Dust & Air Quality

Dust suppression on haul roads and at the processing plant, ambient air quality monitoring, and scheduling of high-noise activities to minimize community impact.

Part of the Community

We prioritize the employment of Tanzanian nationals in compliance with local content regulations. Our international team works alongside local staff, and we invest in training that builds long-term capacity. Beyond direct employment, our operations contribute to the local economy through procurement, taxes, and royalties paid to the Tanzanian government.
